That's right folks, Hank is finally signed up for his basic manners course that we got with his adoption at the Humane Society. It starts in two weeks, we are very excited! I think it will be more training for us, Hank does know some basic manners it's more of a paying attention to it when he wants to thing.
He's still only pooping once a day, which is frustrating. The vet asked for a stool sample, but we have to deliver it between 8-6 and it has to be within 12 hours of when the sample is produced. Hank likes to poop on our after work walk, which usually means he poops at about 6:15...really helpful! Maybe tomorrow I can get home by 5 and get it, but I still kind of don't think it'll happen since I have a meeting at work at 3:30...ugh!

Oh Crap!
Hank has had a hard time with his bowel movements this week. So, since it was snowing today, Jeremiah & I went to work late and came home early. We took Hank out for a walk in the snow, and HOORAY! He pooped. He actually crapped the most perfect poop we've ever seen, and we both kept laughing, since yesterday it was gross and runny. Anyway, I know, but we needed a picture of how perfect Hank's poop came out.

Oh, Case, that's easy to remember, my name's Casey!
Hank has been in need of a bath for a while now, and today was his lucky day! We scheduled him for a bath at the Pet Smart grooming salon. One of the managers in my office says it's the only place she'll take her husky, so I figured that's a good sign. Hank's bath was scheduled for 1:30. We showed up and they were checking in a really cute 10 week old black lab. Then, a woman showed up with her wolf/mix. Also a pretty dog. And Hank was his typical curious self. We got him checked in, and the gal said it may take longer because it's the puppy's first time and he needs a little TLC. I can understand that, no big deal. Then she says Hank will be ready by 5! Yup, we checked him in at 1:30...
About 3:30, Jeremiah gets a call that Hank won't go in the kennel, it took 3 people to shove him in. He was vocal in his kennel, and they decided that they couldn't take him in and out for different things they were doing (teeth brushing, bath, nail clipping, ears, and other stuff that added up to $40!). Anyway, it's been a long time since he had a good bath, so we were excited for this. So, then she says it's going to be 6, that he needs to be her last client because she can't bring him in and out of the kennel.
So, Pet Smart & the grooming salon both close at 6. We showed up about 5 till 6, and went back to get Hank. I walk in and they said she was finishing up, so to go pay up front. I went up and paid, and we came back in. HERE'S WHERE IT GETS GOOD.
We walked into the salon just in time to hear from the back "No, Hank! ow!" Oh crap, this isn't going to be good. Our groomer comes hobbling out with Hank racing in front of her. Evidently this 200 lb lesbian busted her ankle a year ago and Hank helped her to aggravate it again. So, we aren't feeling good, even though we were just laughing at what we heard from the back. So, they come out to the front room, and she informs us she still needs to trim his nails and clean his ears. I offered to come over and help her out. We lift him up onto the table that moves so she's at an easier level to trim them. I continued to give him kisses and feed him treats, and he did OK, and the ear thing went quickly, and then he was DONE!
The woman apologized profusely and said "My name's Casey if you want to use me next time!" if we want to use her again, she said to ask for an express cleaning and she won't charge us for it. She also said he needs to be the first or last client because he doesn't kennel at all. Duh, we could have told her he hates the kennel. She did say he was trying to dig to China. Yeah, we know, he got out and ran all over the house when we tried, he broke the damn kennel and we returned it, HA!
So, it turns out that Hank is REALLY clean, he smells great and his teeth look good. We probably will go back again, knowing that this was a too-full grooming salon today and that Hank is not the easiest client in the world (insert your own "takes after his mom" joke here).

Hank's Daily Adventure
Hank's had a pretty tough week. He hasn't been eating well, he threw up his can of dog food, and he's been pretty mellow. He was at day camp on Wednesday and Thursday because we both had busy days, and the report card came back saying he was pretty low-key wanted to snuggle and lay low. So, by Thursday when he still wasn't eating much, we decided to get him to the vet. We haven't been thrilled with ours, but a friend of mine in town loves hers, so I got the contact info and called on Friday afternoon. They were able to get us in, and now he's on an antibiotic and they sent us home with a stool sample kit. We aren't sure who will draw the sort straw, but they need it within 12 hours, and he hasn't pooped yet today. Oh boy!
We also learned that Hank now weighs 89.3 pounds! This is GREAT! The Humane Society told us he needs to gain 10 pounds and get up to 90, so we're just about there! We cut back to 2 cups twice a day instead of 3 cups twice a day, which got him up to his weight. Hooray! Now we just have to keep up on the exercise to make sure he maintains his weight.
But, today's adventure included Jeremiah going to work at 7, so he took Hank out before he left, gave him his medication and breakfast, then back to bed with me. WE got up about 9:30, and read the paper and enjoyed a relaxing morning. We took a walk in hopes that he might poop so we could run it over to the vet, but no such luck, he's stopped up.
After our walk, I needed to run a couple of errands. Hank KNEW I was about to leave and wanted to go with. He's always very good when we tell him to STAY, he backs off of the garage door. But today, he ran out into the garage. So, I stuck him in the car. I had to go to the liquor store for a gift, and then to the grocery store for a few things. Hank did GREAT! You may remember the story of DAY 2 when we had Hank, and I came back from 5 minutes in the store and my emergency flashers were going and hair was everywhere.
Well, now we're use to the hair (he gets a bath tomorrow, HOORAY!) and he was standing on the back seat checking out the cars and people, but no barking which is GREAT! Oh yeah, another new activity Hank has begun. Hank discovered that the cup holder between the front seats comes down, and he sort of fits. The other morning, I put it down so he could move a little closer to me, and he pushed right through, and DOG actually was my co-pilot on the way to Doggy Day camp. It was pretty funny, he was excited to see what all was going on. Today, on our way home from the grocery store, he wanted to come closer to me, so I put the thing down, and he came up, and tried to climb on my lap (we were still in the parking lot in park at this point). He ended up trying to figure out what worked for him, and finally laid down with his feet and nose under my legs, not the safest, but it's about 10 blocks home, so I wasn't too worried.
Anyway, it's good to know he'll be OK in the car for a few minutes while we run errands. I knew he liked getting in the car, but have been apprehensive to leave him anywhere but at home since those first few days. Hopefully he'll poop here soon. He did poop for me last night on our walk which is good, but we need him to be on a more regular schedule, and by "regular" I mean, when Jeremiah's walking him...

God's sense of humor is lame...
So, after commenting on my lack of desire for children yesterday, God decided to one up me.
I came home from work tonight as usual. Hank had eaten his breakfast this morning with Jeremiah and seemed just fine today. So, I get home, and Hank comes running down the stairs as usual. Since he hasn't peed (and today hasn't pooped) since we left at 7, we go straight outside to get the mail and pee. Everything seems just fine, Hank's excited to see me as always and ready to GO!
We come back inside, head up the stairs, Hank runs to the top of the stairs and waits...he knows he may get in trouble. It looks like the can of dog food and the breakfast this morning didn't sit well. Why do I know this? Because he's vomited all over my carpet with brown dog food! I'm in work clothes so set my stuff down and we head up stairs. Just to make sure...we get into our bedroom and it looks like he also had a little spit up (just water/bile stuff) right inside our closet. It's small and won't leave a stain (God willing...). I change and head back downstairs with a big kitchen spoon and the garbage can and proceed to scoop barf up. OH BOY! What I wouldn't give to be working 14 hour days on a day like this...
We clean up, go for a walk, he seems just fine. We get home, and I'm thinking that I'll just make him some rice which he likes if he has an upset tummy. He comes upstairs, and drinks a ton of water. Then I'm going between rooms, and he's standing in the living room in front of the TV. All of a sudden I hear a cough/hack thing. I go into the living room and he's barfed on the floor again in front of the TV. All that water came right back up. So, we wipe it up, and just laid down for a while on the floor.
Jeremiah came home about 8 and took over dog watching duty. I made some rice and we decided to give him a little. He drank more water, we gave him 30 minutes to let it settle, then gave him some rice. He didn't want to eat it so we poured a little chicken broth over it, and he seemed to like that.
The bigger problem is that tomorrow is a busy day of meetings and presentations and events. Jeremiah's in busy season so Hank's going to day camp tomorrow. I'm a little nervous that they wont' let him in because he's been sick. But, I'm 99% sure it's the dog food, and since that's (clearly) out of his system he should be fine. Hopefully he'll eat some in the morning and be back to 110% by tomorrow night.
Ugh...but still, no 2 am feedings, hooray!

Here comes the airplane...
There are a variety of reasons I don't want kids, and a variety of reasons why Hank is such a GREAT addition to the family. Waking us up at 1:30, not awesome, BUT, no 1:30 AM feedings or diaper changes, just a quick snap of the finger and he was back on the floor.
Also, I had 2 glasses of wine tonight. You can't do that when you're pregnant or breast feeding. Suckers. AND, a new study came out today about caffeine and pregnancy. Like I needed another reason to just be the worlds greatest aunt.
So, this morning Jeremiah filled up Hank's food dish with Costco's finest dry food. Hank usually likes it, but the past few days hasn't been eating as much. We do know that he likes to have us around when he eats (so the food is in the kitchen) and he needs to work up an appetite, so we like to throw the ball around for him, which helps sometimes. This morning I threw the ball around for him, and he ate about 1/3 of the bowl.
Tonight, I got home from work and he hadn't eaten any more, which wasn't a huge surprise. We took our evening walk, and then came back to play with his favorite ball, since it was SO FREAKIN COLD OUTSIDE! We played, and he ate some, but still left about 1/3 cup left. So, of the 6 cups we usually feed him in a day, he ate 2.
I was beginning to get worried, he would go sniff the food bowl but wouldn't eat it. So, I went down to the garage and grabbed a can of canned food that we got from a dog food store with a free coupon when we adopted him. (ie, free food to test run). We had tried a can of dog food when we first got Hank and he didn't like it. Tonight, I stuck this in a Tupperware dish and he ate the WHOLE thing!
So, I"m not sure how things will progress. I'm hoping that we can just give him the canned food on occasion, and that he'll be OK. It'd be an expensive habit to start up. BUT, if he needs a change of diet, I guess we'll have to figure it out. We also got a bag of raw dog food. But something about raw meat being fed to Hank just doesn't sit well with me.
Maybe he just misses Jeremiah. He just got home from work (yup, it's 9:30) and Hank ate it all while Jeremiah stood by him. Maybe he just misses his dad and I'm not good enough for him. Where do I send the therapy bills for that?

2 AA please
Tonight, Jeremiah and I went out for dinner. We both realized we really haven't had a date since we got Hank, so this was a nice treat. We just went to Coho Cafe down the street, but it was nice to go out tonight, since I wasn't in the mood to cook.
We came home after dinner (and a short trek to Home Depot, Jeremiah is so romantic...) and we both dropped to our knees and were playing with Hank. We're pathetic. And then, Jeremiah went over to the couch and noticed that the remote was upside down, the battery cover was off and the batteries WERE GONE. Jeremiah looked under the pillows and checked the spot between the cushion, nothing. Momentary "no way" moment. Jeremiah left the living room for whatever reason, and I took off the cushions and Hank had squished them under the cushions on the couch. No clue how he made this happen, but again, our dog has mad skills. At least no dingleberry's today. Just lots of barking at the dog park!

Dragging Ass...
I know mom, I'm sorry, but just hear this story out...and Heather, this story is for YOU!
So, tonight after dinner, Jeremiah and I decided to take Hank for a walk. He's been a very good puppy this week and taken good care of Jeremiah while I was at work. So, we went on our walk up and around through the apartments by our house. Typically on this route, Hank will poop. We all do it, don't pretend that this story is gross.
So, tonight we walk over by the apartments, and of course, the street lights were out (thanks dad...) so we couldn't see Hank "in action" well, except we could tell that he was a little runnier than usual, and this was a MAJOR poop. AND then, after he poops, he often likes to leave a little P.S. drip at the end. So, he poops, then walks, then goes to drip on the sidewalk (a new hobby of his) and I holler for him to go poop on the grass. But, all he does is sit. It was weird. Jeremiah picks up the poop, and we start to walk again. Hank goes about 2 feet and starts to squat and sit. And then he keeps trying to sit, he does NOT want to walk. At first we ran up the street, thinking maybe we just weren't going fast enough, and that worked for a moment. But, we finally get a street light on so we can see what's happening with his butt.
That's right folks, Hank had his first dingle-berry. Jeremiah was so proud, clearly this is a like father-like son experience for him. Not the first time, and definitely not the last. But poor Hank could NOT shake what was left. So we grabbed another bag and I did the wiping duty. I got most of it, and he was a happy puppy for the rest of the walk home. He even got aroused by the pug we ran into on the way home. So, we get home and I run upstairs and get the wipes, and realize that there was a little tuft of hair stuck, so I pulled it out, and wiped up the rest of his butt. If anyone is curious about my need for children, this helped remind me of why dog's are so much better than kids.
Hank's now passed out on the floor next to Jeremiah. And also, passing gas.
OKAY! This was such a weird walk! And that's just the first part. So, the street lights weren't on, and we couldn't see WELL, but could see that a guy was walking towards us with his pet on a leash. The wife was across the street and hollered to this guy that he should cross. This is at the point where Jeremiah is trying to figure out how to open up the poop bag and so we're hanging tight. I said it was OK that Hank's friendly. And THEN! The guy goes "yeah but with cats?" That's right ladies and gentlemen...this guy was walking his CAT on a leash.
I know you all know that cat's are pretty useless animals in my book. But, some people think otherwise, and well, we have to allow them in this country. But seriously, walking your cat? These people are crazy. Then they cross the street, Jeremiah figures out how to open a bag, and as he's picking up the HUGE pile of poop, I hear the guy talking to his cat about what side it wants to walk on, and what he's doing. I'm just waiting for the guy to finally walk around the corner so I can make some serious fun of him! All of this is before my dog starts literally dragging his ass on the sidewalk granted.
What a night! Poor Hank is so traumatized he is passed out on the floor trying to recover from the pain and humiliation of the night, and I think he's also embarrassed on behalf of the cat, since really, we all were.

Two things Hank does NOT like: Baths, and HAIL!
So, it's been snowing this evening, and we thought a nice family walk in the snow would be pretty and fun. So, we both got all bundled up, grabbed the "wonder walker" to work on Hank's walking, and opened the door. Well, the snow had turned to hail! Hank stood in the front door (usually he bolts out) and we finally pushed him out. He looked at us, and turned to come back. We walked out onto the driveway (if you've been here before, you know that this is not a large space we're talking about), and Hank just froze (still, not cold, but probably cold froze too). Anyway, before we even got out into the street and onto our walk, Hank had enough and we ended up coming back in and playing with his ball.
We're also working on sit and lay right now, so we had an enjoyable time working with the clicker using the ball as his "reward." The good news...he only snipped at my hand once! YAY!
Now it's back to snow, and he went out on the patio in it, he's so cute!
Hank and the Snow
Hank's really funny when it snows. Today we got home from work and it was snowing a little at our house. Nothing too major, but slushy. So, I took Hank out for our evening mail/potty routine. He was slipping and sliding around, it was really funny to watch. I always feel KIND of bad, but clearly not enough to not force him to go with me. If I'm going to suffer through the drizzly rain/snow/slush mix for him, he'll suffer too. So we slipped and slided down the street, he did his business, and now we're in where it's warm for the evening. But, we'll have to go out again before we go to bed, and probably for more of a walk, since he just got the quick jaunt. One of these days I think he's going to punch me in the face when I laugh at him, but until then, I'll just keep wiping up his runny nose (another new issue...)

Who's balls are those?
Well, it was a beautiful weekend here in Issaquah! On Friday we ended up not working and since it wasn't raining we took Hank over to Marymoor to run him around and get some fresh air. He had a GREAT time, ran all over the place, got soaking wet, and slept all day and night. Saturday was a lazy day, sleep, relax, watch football, mourn, etc.
Then today, Hank's dog trainer came for his last private lesson (they were free, we aren't that crazy). We worked on using a "wonder walker" which is a corrective walking thing that doesn't hurt Hank when we walk, but it corrects his walk when he tries to veer off from me. It's to help him heal next to me, and I think he'll be pretty good at it. Since it was an AMAZING day (it looked like August, blue skies & sunshine, amazing!) I took Hank up to Marymoor again for a reward. I couldn't believe how packed the parking lot was! We got a great spot up front, and off we went! Clearly, Hank knows his way around now, because by the time I caught up to him, he was at the SECOND opening to the river, not the first one, no, he kept going, he knew what he wanted. HE was IN the water when I found him, and since it was so nice, he (and all the other dogs) were dodging Kayakers out in the water! It was a zoo! Hank ran and jumped, and stole dogs balls (a favorite hobby at the dog park) and has been sleeping since we got home. It's actually supposed to be pretty nice this week, except for Monday, so hopefully it'll stick around to the weekend.
Hank gets to go to Day camp on Tuesday and Thursday this week given my work schedule, so that'll be nice. Hopefully he'll forgive us for ignoring him all the time while we're at work.

A+! My dog's a genius!
...when it comes to "potty time." So, Hank went to Day Camp today. He seems to like it and is always excited to see me when he comes out, but the staff all say they LOVE him. So, this morning when we checked in, they asked if I want a report card. He's been to day camp once and two over nights, but we haven't gotten the coveted report card yet. AND I WANTED IT! So, we got one today...
Play Time:
Fit, fun and full of energy (this is the top score)
comments: He loves play time with ALL his pals. Love to play with Kong's.
This is thanks to Rudy, dad's dog who taught Hank, Zen and the Art of Kong Maintenance.
Friend Time
Made lots of new Friends (again, to score)
comments: Hank made tons of friends, Angel, Jade, Hobson, Porter, Stout, ALL LABS :)
Porter & Stout are two names I wanted to name a black or chocolate lab. Hank's yellow, and Blond and Pale just seem like lame dog names...
Rest Time
Too Excited to rest (this is actually the lowest score)
comments: This sill boy was way to happy about being here to nap.
alright fine...that's what we're paying them for though!
Potty Time
A+! (took care of business)
comments: Hank's a pro. IT comes natural to him. The call of the wild ;)
The Whole Time
(hearts & "we love him!!" over the top of the top one)
Had a big day, big fun, big smiles
comments: he loves it here and could only benefit from more time here.
Nice sales pitch girls. Lucky for you, Jeremiah's in busy season, so if I have a long day, Hank will be all yours to play with. He'll be back Wednesday!
Hank sure seems to love it there, and he seemed sad and depressed when he got home. Boring mom was tired and just wanted to watch TV and snuggle. We're pretty sure he'll survive. And, the tomorrow he gets to lounge around the house for the day and get caught up on his beauty rest for Wednesday!

Hank's First Girlfriend
Hank and Rudy had a GREAT weekend together, this morning they were playing and running around the house. Hank was even following Rudy which hadn't happened up to this point. They were doing GREAT together! Until dad decided that it was time to head back to Eugene.
